Thought this would be a nice transition from the Canal to Braddock's Grave, the next set of pictures.  I hope you enjoyed the C&O Canal photos.  It is one of my favorite national parks, our nation's longest and narrowest.  If you're in the area, it is worth a visit.  There are museums at Cumberland, Williamsport, and Georgetown.

Swimmin' Hole

Along the canal at Little Orleans.  He's leaping into the creek from a rope swing.  The Potomac River is in the background past the boat ramp.

Wasted

There would have been wooden doors on this gateway, and if there was too much water in the canal, the doors would be opened, and the wastewater diverted into the creek below.

Another Viaduct

Looking at the Little Orleans viaduct, but I think its official name is the Fifteen Mile Creek viaduct.  A waste weir is to the left.

BILL'S!!!

Yes, its BILL'S!  The legendary watering hole along the C&O Canal in Little Orleans!  I've fond, fond memories of this place from my backpacking days.  Always a good stop for supplies and a cool one.  The orginal store/bar burned down a number of years back, but they're still in business, catering to backpackers, bicyclists, canoers, fishers and the locals.

Watch For Low Flying Aircraft
