It Appears That The Chickens Are Arriving At The Roost

Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III on Monday revealed charges against three former Trump campaign officials — including onetime campaign chairman Paul Manafort — marking the first criminal allegations to come from probes into possible Russian influence in U.S. political affairs.
One of the three men charged, former Trump foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos, admitted making a false statement to FBI investigators who asked about his contacts with a foreigner who claimed to have high-level Russian connections. The agreement was unsealed Monday.

I find the revelation of Papadopoulos's guilty plea the most interesting development.  Sounds like he's cooperating, and it appears from the indictment that he may have information about Don Jr's meeting with the Russians in an effort to get "dirt" on Hillary Clinton.

Hollow Words

So Corker and Flake are not running for reelection to the Senate.  Both are calling out Trump.  In Flake's speech today he longed for a return to comity and cooperation.  Yet both senators were part of the Republican effort to block anything The Black Guy did, were complicit in the theft of a Supreme Court seat, and helped confirm truly terrible and unqualified cabinet appointments.  If they truly had spines, they would cross the aisle and caucus with the Democrats for the remainder of their terms.

Pot Pie!

The Frothling and Frothette helped make a chicken pot pie for dinner tonight.  The Frothling cut up the vegetables, and Frothette helped stir.  The girls also helped with spooning the filling into the pie pan and putting the top crust on.  Everyone agreed it was delicious!

Party!

The Frothling had a delayed 8th birthday party, so her friends from school could attend.  October was the earliest there was a free weekend between softball games and horseback riding lessons.  The girls had a nail salon party at the local beauty parlor.  Everyone had a great time and left with lovely nails!

This is callousness and attitude is exactly what I was typing about yesterday.

Full quotation:  In his call with Sgt. La David T. Johnson’s widow, Myeshia Johnson, Trump told her, “He knew what he was signing up for, but I guess it hurts anyway,” according to the account of Rep. Frederica S. Wilson (D-Fla.), who was riding in a limousine with Johnson when the president called and heard the conversation on speakerphone.

As I noted, Trump and people like him view the military the same way they view the domestic staff.  They're the help.  If they don't make a lot of money or bad things happen to them, its because they made bad choices.  A winner would choose to fake a bone spur and use inherited money to make a fortune, not go and join the military where they might have to do something dangerous on behalf of their country.  Trump had no intention of calling this brave soldier's family, because it never crossed his mind that he should.  Once backed into a corner, where he felt forced to make the call, he then put no thought into what he would say, or how Sgt. Johnson’s widow might react to his words because he doesn't care.  She should be happy he took the time to even speak with her in the first place.

That's the way many of the very wealthy think.

Because He Was Called Out On It, And It Made Him Look Bad

That's the only reason why Trump is going to call the families of the soldiers killed in Niger.

I went to an exclusive private high school, and there were a few (thankfully not many) wealthy students there who essentially saw the military as "the help."  The cared not a whit for the military, other than it do their bidding on their behalf.  Its the way those few kids all viewed people who worked what we would call "service" professions.  There when they required them, but ignorable in the abstract.  I'm convinced that's exactly what Trump thinks of the members of the military as well.  Beneath his notice, so long as they do what he wants them to do.
