In today's P-G,  Ruth Ann blames "The Left" for Trump's popularity in the Republican party, and further complains about some people pointing out that all elected Republicans are offering as solitions are religious platitudes, rather than actual legislation, calling it "religious bigotry."  Meanwhile,  Marco Rubio decided that people who are to dangerous to fly on airplanes aren't so dangerous that they cannot amass arsenals.  And for bonus points she invokes BENGHAZI!

She offers no solutions, but just shuts down any criticism by declaring any opinion other than her own "merits no further comment."

The Nation We Live In

A world where a reporter and her camerman are killed by gunfire while interviewing someone live.

A news crew from WDBJ7 local news was on the scene at the Bridgewater Plaza near Smith Mountain Lake at about 6.45am ET to film a segment for the morning news when several shots rang out. Screams followed and the camera recording the feature fell, as producers cut to the shocked studio news team.

The station later announced that two of their team, Alison Parker, 24, and Adam Ward, 27, had been shot dead.

Of course, the answer must be MOAR GUNS because they obviously could have returned fire if they were armed, right?

What could possibly go wrong?

Christopher A. Reed, 28, of Lancaster, was charged with discharging a firearm in the city limits, and was issued a summons to appear in Fairfield County Municipal Court on Tuesday, according to the police incident report.

Reed told police that he was holding his rifle outside the recruitment center when someone asked if he could take a look at it. Reed agreed, and while he was trying to clear the ammunition from the weapon, he accidentally fired one shot into the asphalt pavement.

Nevr mind failing Gun Safety 101 by discharging a weapon he was trying to clear (and its not the first time its happened to him either) but how is he supposed to "protect" the recruiting center after surrendering his weapon to someone who wanted to "see" it?

Learned Behavior

No child is born racist, racism is learned, and perhaps at a younger age than once thought.  I haven't seen too much published at this time about the shooting suspects upbringing, but living in the deep south, and in the state that exepmplifies sedition, where the symbols of racism are unavoidable, is it any surprise that Dylann Roof holds odious views?

This was an act of terrorism.  It was a hate crime.  It was not an attack on religion, despite the protestations of those on the right.  How many churches did the killer drive past on his way Emanuel A.M.E., a church steeped in history and symbolism?  If it was an attack on religion, why didn't the killer launch his attack on a Sunday, when the churches are full? 

And the most odious?  Blaming the victim, as an NRA board member did.

So where to start?  How do we begin to address the posion of racism?  Ta-Nehisi Coates made a modest suggestion.

Gun Insanity

I'm a gun owner.  I'm not a hunter, but I enjoy things like skeet and target shooting.  I feel no need to own a gun for personal defense, but then again, I live in an urban area with excellent police coverage.  If I lived in the sticks where the nearest police protection was an hour away, I'd probably keep a handgun.

That said, how could any person, and any organization be against a law requiring you to report to police a lost or stolen gun once you became aware that your firearm was missing???

Here's NRA gink Jonathan Goldstein in the Pee-Gee: “Our members live under the threat of being charged every day,” he said. “And the threat of being charged for exercising a lawful right is too much to take. Imagine if you had to report to the government every time you lost papers related to a political speech.” 

Please Mr. Goldstein, point me to an example where someone has been beaten to death with paper they lost.

UPDATE:  The Post-Gazette removed Mr. Goldstein's comment regarding lost papers from the story.  Probably because it makes Goldstein look like an idiot.

 

Woman Shoots Self In Head

Twenty-six year old Becca Campbell died from a gunshot wound to the head while exercising her Second Amendment rights.

The sources told CNN that the victim was involved in a car accident. Campbell's 33-year-old boyfriend, who was not identified, was driving the car and told investigators that Campbell began waving a gun around and joking that the couple were ready for Ferguson, the sources said.

The boyfriend said he rear-ended another car while ducking to avoid the gun, which then discharged and struck Campbell in the head, the sources said. The victim later died at a hospital.

The boyfriend told police that the couple purchased the gun because they feared unrest that may arise from a grand jury decision in the fatal shooting of unarmed black teen Michael Brown by a white police officer, the sources said.

Gotta wonder if this woman would still be alive if it weren't for the media frenzy.

Just Another Day In The US

Sadly, its becoming routine.  And I'm still trying to figure out how to tell the difference between a good guy with a gun, and a bad guy with a gun.
