We had to say goodbye to our dear dog Britty today. I went to feed her this morning and she simply couldn't stand or walk. I adopted her from Animal Friends in August of 2001, and she was a very sweet and loving dog. She went deaf about two years ago, was diagnosed with Lyme disease last year, and went blind several months ago, but she maintained a healthy appetite, and could still get around fairly well (despite the occasional collision with the coffee table) many times with a spring in her step like she was still a puppy. Just this September I had to chase after her when she went tearing down the hill in our backyard, cutting her off before she slammed snout first into the fence! I always said that when her bad days outnumbered her good days, we'd say goodbye, and it was clear a few weeks ago that the threshold was met. We hoped to keep her going just a few more weeks, so we could say goodbye when I took my vacation week in February, but it was clear that we had to part ways today. She will be greatly missed.
