Indictable

DOJ policy that a sitting president cannot be indicted is the only reason why Trump isn't in the dock right now.

BUCK: Let me just stop. You made the decision on the Russian interference [conspiracy]. You couldn’t have indicted the president on that. And you made the decision on that. But when it came to obstruction, you threw a bunch of stuff up against the wall to see what would stick, and that is fundamentally unfair.
MUELLER: I would not agree to that characterization at all. What we did is provide to the attorney general in the form of a confidential memorandum our understanding of the case, those cases that were brought, those cases that were declined, that one case where the president cannot be charged with a crime.
BUCK: Okay, but the … could you charge the president with a crime after he left office?
MUELLER: Yes.
BUCK: You believe that he committed … you could charge the president of the United States with obstruction of justice after he left office?
MUELLER: Yes.

There it is.  Mueller confirms that Trump can be indicted the instant he leaves office.  In the meantime, its time for Congress to do its duty and remove him from office via impeachment.

Well, It Seems....

That "Send her back" will be the "Lock her up" of the 2020 campaign.  

This sort of rhetoric gets people killed.

Democrats Sue Treasury

They're seeking Trump's tax returns.

Rep. Richard E. Neal (D-Mass.), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, filed the lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury Department after months of feuding with the Trump administration over the returns.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig, who have denied Democrats’ demands for the returns, are named as defendants.
“Defendants have mounted an extraordinary attack on the authority of Congress to obtain information needed to conduct oversight of Treasury, the IRS, and the tax laws on behalf of the American people who participate in the Nation’s voluntary tax system,” the 49-page lawsuit states.

This should be a no-brainer, but with the Republicans' efforts to to make the courts more partisan and favorable to their ideology, I no longer trust Federal judges to act constitutionally.

From a purely political standpoint, this is the most earth-shattering day of my life.  Two of Trump's close confidants are off to prison, and Cohen admitted he coordinated payments to porn stars to influence the election.  

 

In a normal world, this would be the end of Trump.  But the spineless Republican cowards in Congress will do nothing.

What An Embarrassing Excuse Of A President

The people in Puerto Rico need food, water, medicine, heavy equipment and construction supplies.  Trump threw rolls of paper towels at them,

He also complained that Puerto Rico was blowing a hole in the budget and that what the people there suffered wasn't a "real" disaster.

 

They Really Are This Stupid

Donald Trump Jr. made public on Twitter the e-mails that could very well pull down the administration and send him, Kushner, and Manafort to prison.

The email exchange showed clearly that Trump Jr. understood he was taking the meeting as a way of channeling information directly from the government of a nation hostile to the United States to his father’s campaign. It is the most concrete public evidence to date suggesting that top Trump campaign aides were eager for Russia’s assistance in the campaign.

No lawyer would advise a client to make such damning evidence available to the public.  This, coupled with everything else we've learned over the past year shows there is no smoke, the blazing flames from this tire fire of an administration are so hot its combusting with 100% efficiency.

Special Counsel Appointed

Things just got really interesting.

The Justice Department appointed a special counsel Wednesday to investigate possible coordination between Trump associates and Russian officials — a clear signal to the White House that federal investigators will aggressively pursue the matter despite the president’s insistence that there was no “collusion’’ with the Kremlin.

Robert S. Mueller III, a former prosecutor who served as the FBI director from 2001 to 2013, has agreed to take over the investigation as a special counsel, Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein announced. The move marks a concession by the Trump administration to Democratic demands for the investigation to be run independently of the Justice Department. Calls for a special counsel intensified after Trump fired FBI Director James B. Comey last week.

This is a significant development.  Whatever Mueller finds, assuming he's given the proper resources, we'll have some resolution to Trump's compounding scandals.

Another Day, Another Scandal

Jeff Sessions is a liar.

At his Jan. 10 Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing, Sessions was asked by Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) what he would do if he learned of any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of the 2016 campaign.

“I’m not aware of any of those activities,” he responded. He added: “I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians.”

Of course, we now know that he did, in fact, have at least two encounters, one of which was a private meeting, with the Russian ambassador.  Now, amid calls for his resignation, Sessions announced he was recusing himself from the probe into Russian efforts to influence the election.  As well he should, since he's now a potential target.

Not even two months in, and this is shaping up as the most corrupt administration ever.
